President Chen: “If my condition becomes critical, I refuse any medical treatment to save my life...”

Jay Tu

After the report which recommends medical parole for President Chen was released by Control Yuan, there have been speculations that Ma and KMT are considering medical parole to avoid the scenario that President Chen dies in prison now that his life is in clear and present danger. These speculations, reported in some newspapers in Taiwan, likely released by Ma and his advisors to test the public opinions or to suppress public outcries. As reported, the main reason for Ma to consider medical parole for President Chen is that Ma does not want to become the one who kills his predecessor in the prison. After these speculations were reported, the Taichung Prison authority released a statement today (6-616-2014) that they had not received any order to release President Chen, and they would not release him without an order (see the link below).

However, the most important turn of event is that President Chen has given a will that he would refuse any medical treatment if his condition becomes critical. He states "I refuse any tube insertion to save my life. No need to waste ECMO on me."

There it is. Taiwanese collectively stand on the side line, except a few who worked hard to save him, and watch their two term president, the only one not from KMT, to die in front of their eyes. To this date, there are still many people in the green camp who want to pretend there is no Abian-ah dying issue and everything has to wait until Tsai IW gets elected as the new president in 2016.

Cheng NR, who died in 1989 by self-immolation for upholding 100% freedom speech against KMT's arrest attempt, was portrayed as a terrorist for many years (even today by some professors at Cheng Kung University) although he is now widely considered a martyr and a courageous figure. Chen Wen-Chen, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, was murdered in 1981 and he, too, was portrayed as a terrorist by KMT and committed suicide after his secret was exposed. Today, the students at National Taiwan University, his alma mater, have proposed setting up a plaza named after Dr. Chen Wen-Chen to raise the awareness of the white terror era in Taiwan.

My question for all fellow Taiwanese: Do we, Taiwanese, always have to wait 20 to 30 years before we are able to restore the name of a brave Taiwanese who had been tortured and killed by KMT? Right in front of our eyes, at this moment, President Chen is dying a painful and slow death, the ultimate torture of all tortures by Ma/KMT/CCP.

Not only, Ma will be indicted by history (and law) that he murdered his predecessor, but also DPP leaders cannot escape the accusation as indifferent accomplices.
